    1962 T-bird convertible top question

I'm working on a 62 T-bird convertible and want to know if the cylinder on the passenger side that contains the fluid is pressureized or if it can simply be opened and fluid added ?
    What fluid is recommended ?
Also, if the system does not function properly, can the top and trunk section be raised/lowered manually ?
    Thanks.

It is not pressurized. The original fluid used in the pumps was heavy duty brake fluid. Most convertible pumps now use Dextron 2 Automatic Transmission Fluid.

This site sell a kits to repair and fill your pump: http://www.convertibleparts.com/pump.htm
