    63 disc brakes

    Hi Jeff,

The first thing you will probably need to do is to make sure what sized rims that '63 has on it. If it is like the Squarebirds, it probably has the OEM 14" rims installed. If it does, they are probably not disc brake ready rims and you will have to find a set of 5 that are disc brake ready. I got my disc brake ready rims off a disc brake equipped Granada. If you have 15" rims, they might work as they are, but I am not sure of that. I don't know if you will have to look for a set of 15" disc brake ready rims off a disc brake equipped car. Someone else will have to comment on that.

Yes, we used S10 stuff. If you have not looked at the Squarebirds Forum, check out the very longgg thread on converting from drums to discs on it. There is a ton of information there to go through and it will take you awhile. But is should be very helpful to you.

If you do a Search for "disc brake conversion" you will find a lot of links about it, including this one that is 30 pages long... You can spend a lot of time going through these links but it should certainly help you learn what you are going to be going through. I also added the dual MC/2 stage 8" power booster to my '59 Tbird.

Morning, Jeff, I see you are still on. Regarding using all Granada parts, (other than disc brake ready rims) some problems can be encountered, from what I understand, from those who went the all Granada route. I remember that some said they had a problem with alignment, and there was some shaving of parts that had to be done to make them work. When Howard Prout and I did our Squarebird conversions, we decided to go with S10 and Mustang parts, and did not run into those problems. There is a ton of information in the Squarebirds Forum that you should go through to help save yourself time, money and future possible problems.

Here is a link to doing a disc brake job on a '62 Tbird. Starts out on a different subject, but read down through it.

Here are four pages of information related to disc brakes.
