I just got this from Steve Puig.

"Hi Ray. I thought you would get a kick out of this Instagram post that says the last President if Cuba before Castro drove a Tbird. Hope all is well, Steve."

The following information was posted on social media by someone...

"Top down and cruising the streets of Havana was one of the best experiences of my trip to Cuba. It's no wonder cruising was a favorite pastimes of generations past. The Thunderbird we rode in was previously owned by Fulgencio Batista, former President of Cuba, and was given to his wife as a gift. Very few Thunderbirds remain in Cuba because many of them have been snuck out of the country and on to the blackmarket because they are highly sought after as collectors items."

We had a pay TV show on the Cuban Classic Car scene here in Oz last year, only about 8 episodes but it showed how the Cubans keep the classics on the road. Their ability to make a part from a totally different car fit and get their cars back on the road was second to none.

I note that the 'vert has chrome accents around the rear tail lights. That's an expensive job to get done anywhere now with EPA laws and what have you regarding the chemicals used in chroming. Demonstrates the passion these guys have for their cars.

A Tbird In Cuba....

Hi Bill, we were also getting that TV show and I watched it every week and enjoyed it. But it was not continued. It was interesting to watch, I thought. Yes, I saw that someone had installed the chrome package on the tail light section, like Rose has. She has that external chrome package, and the engine chrome package on her. In fact, her grill is chromed, the air scoop is chromed, the door foot step pieces (chromed and covered in clear plastic to protect them when you step on them) and about everything in the engine bay is, including that big air cleaner...
