Can someone tell me if this was a factory paint scheme? I've seen several T-birds painted this way including my 59 which was painted just the same way when I bought it.
Defintely not painted that way from the factory. If your data plate has a single letter for the color, then your car was all one color. If it has two letters, then it was two tone, roof and body were different colors.

I agree with both Sandy and Alexander. And considering it was my Bird used in the example ... Let's just say that I *know* it wasn't a factory paint job.
Excluding White and Black monotones, how many actual "colors" can you recall on squarebirds that were MONOTONE ? I have like zero mental image(s) of any monotones, short of white and/or black......

If I'm getting what your asking ... Mine was pretty much monotone. Black exterior with a black and white interior. Great car for B&W tv! :P
Yes, but like I said .... it's a black exterior car !! The ONLY monotones that I ever saw were either white OR black cars. Have you ever seen, or can recall seeing, a 58 59 or 60 in MONOTONE paint that WAS not a black OR a white car ??
so by "monotone" we are referring only to the exterior??
If so it seems like I have seem solid RED cars for sale on Ebay;
of course there's no way to tell if they were originally like that or not short of seeing the plate.
A total of 15 colors were available on the 58 model. It was popular back in the 50,s to see many 2 toned cars. On the T-bird.......ONLY THE TOP was painted a different color from the body where applicable. From what I have read in the past........14 of these colors were used on the whole body..........making the car 1 color. The only color that wasnt offered as a solid color was Gulfstream blue. These cars came with a white top..........but could be ordered with a black top as well. More colors were added for the 59 and 60 years. Ill do some more digging around to make sure;-)
