drivers door won't latch
Hi Brad! I thoroughly enjoyed the phone conversation we had. I hope you received the emails that I sent you. If not, let me know. The door problem could be a simple matter of adjusting the door latch on the pillar. Or the door hinges. Someone, in the past, might have sprung that door. I hope not. Try adjusting the latch and see if that fixes the problem.
You will want to get a copy of the '59 Squarebird Shop Manual, the Electrical Assembly Manual, the Body & Trim Assembly Manual, at least. The wiring diagram is available on the Forum. Check the Technical Resource Library above this. You might also want to get the Tbird Restoration Guide, the How to Rebuild Big-Block Engines book. You can even get a copy of the Owners Manual if there is not one in the glove box. These are all available through one of our many Tbird parts vendors. You can find them listed in the Advertisements Forum.
Also, since you know the VIN # and Data Plate information, you might want to register your Tbird with the Tbird Registry run by John Rotella. He has compiled a listing of some 30,000+ Tbirds that are still known to exist, or have been listed as having been scrapped or parted out. You can email him at john@tbirdregistry.com The registry is at www.tbirdregistry.com but you have to email him your VIN # and Data Plate information and he will add it to the registry and send you a membership number. This is a free service.

See if the latches actually close. You may have to lubricate with WD-40 to get them operational.
As mentioned, watch for door drop when opening (bad hinge(s) or adjustment) and possible need for latch position adjustment. Sometimes even something as simple as door glass out of adjustment will prevent one from closing properly.Comment

had this issue with the passenger door on my car when I first got it.
the little "star" mechanism on the door was up too high and wouldnt fully engage the teeth on the door pillar block.
My terminology above is probably wrong, but anyways, I fiddled with the door alignment and got it to work eventually.Comment
