    Weekend VI

Well, my father help me off & on during the week finish painting the inside of my engine compartment. We have now started installing new pieces.

We still lack welding in the new battery tray on the right inner fender though. We also have to paint the inner front & middle crossmembers.

Getting closer, I'm still waiting on the harmonic balancer to come back from Oregon too (for the repainted motor). My new power steering lines came in as well, so I need to craw under the bird and install those.

    Jon:

Looks really clean and neat. Looks like you have welded some new exhaust flanges on the head pipes. Did they leak in the past?

I like the tennis ball idea for keeping something from dropping inside the exhaust pipes.

Keep the photos coming when you can.

Those flanges were made back in 1993-ish when I had the whole exhaust system re-done in 2 1/4" aluminized steel & Turbo mufflers. They have never leaked....

        That's one clean engine bay

Don't leave those tennis balls in there, if you do your exhaust system will make one **** of a racquet...

That reminds me of a story from NPR's Car Talk guys. A guy called in and said he was changing the injectors on his Taurus. While he had the intake off, he had placed a sock in each head port to prevent stuff from falling in. After he got it buttoned back up, he counted his socks and only had 5. Uh-oh.

You know what Click & Clack said? "What kind of socks were they?" Turns out they were all cotton gym socks, so they said fire her up and run her hard to burn all that cotton out of there.

Here is a cell phone pic of my Bird in the garage, u can see all the painted parts sitting on cardboard on the roof panel. I just realized I never posted a pic of my actual car, just parts that I was working on.
