Hi everyone! I was looking through the Birds Nest catalog and came across a rubber piece, part 18912A, that was said to be for the antenna cable. Pretty much a disc of rubber with a hole in the center. My antenna cable comes out of the large opening toward the back of the inner fender and goes through the firewall along with some other wires via the firewall grommet shown in the catalog as part 359451S. Who knows how and where the Birds Nest part 18912A would go?

Rick, I know that if you were to call Don at the Bird Nest, he can probably best answer your question. I rely on Don often for answers to questions that I have, or others have. Also, Carl ~ partsetal, and John ~ jopizz probably know that answer...

I don't think that grommet is used on a Squarebird. It may be used for other years and it's a typo in the catalog. The antenna wire comes out the same grommet as the vacuum wiper hose.

Yup - mine exits just like the one in John's pic.
Probably just a generic thing already on the antenna when manufactured??
Could it have something to do with the trunk mounted version and just gets stuck on the fender mounted one as well?
Maaaaaann - look at that nice serpentine belt set up!!!
One of these days I'm going to win the lottery and my engine compartment will be that nice.

I just spoke with Don at the Bird Nest. Here is what he said. Grommet Part # 18912A IS correct for the Squarebirds. That grommet with the big hole in the center mounts under the antenna and allows you to run the antenna cable from the radio through the grommet and into the base of the antenna. As I recall, my '59 has that grommet in place. The other grommet on the firewall, grommet Part # 359451S, is also correct for the Squarebirds. It allows you to run that antenna cable from the radio, out the firewall, to that 18912A grommet. It has several holes in it that also allows you to run the vacuum wiper hose through it, and anything else you might need to run through the firewall. So, yes, both are correct for the Squarebird according to Don.

I'd like to add some clarity- the 18912A antenna lead in grommet is not for the Squarebird, tho it does fit other Ford vehicles. 359451S is the bung shaped hard rubber grommet that goes on the left side of the firewall and carries the headlight, Power window, and engine harness connections. It is retained by a metal connector that clamps over it and is screwed to the firewall. 14608A is a soft rubber grommet that is on the Right side of the firewall. It carries the antenna lead, the wiper vacuum line and has an extra hole that can be used for the additional vacuum line (430), or the washer pump switch vacuum line. It has a slot around it that retains it in the firewall hole. I've seen some catalogs that confuse the left and right grommets.

Thanks, Carl. I can only tell you what Don told me, and what their catalog states. That both are for the '58-'60 Squarebirds. He said they have been selling them for years for the Squarebirds. Thanks for the additional information. Perhaps Bird Nest has it wrong.
