    Trunk seal

I'm not sure if my car has the correct trunk seal installed.
It's a coupe, should it be on the body or the underside of the trunk lid.

    Thanks

I have noticed that the trunk seals appear both ways in some of the pictures I find on the net. Was always curious as to why. I thought some maybe used a different w/s from another car. Now I understand. All of the parts catalogs, including D. Carpenter only appear to sell the later model weatherstrip.

It's certainly much easier putting it on the trunk lip rather than the lid. I suspect that's why it's done. You can buy generic trunk lid seal that's used on newer cars and do it that way.

Does anyone have any first hand experience with putting the w/s on the trunk lid lip instead of the deck? Since I have to buy a new w/s, I think I would rather have it one the lip. Would this just be a generic trunk seal?

My '58 has it on the trunk lid. Willing to bet it is not the original weatherstrip. Looking in my Service Manual it appears on page 10-6 that the weatherstripping is attached to the trunk lid.

I just replaced mine on my very early 58. The old seal was on the lid so that is where I glued the new seal. I would be interested to see photos of the seal on the body.

                  Trunk seal

As I recall, I got my trunk seal from the Bird Nest. It is the type that has the slit in it which allowed me to glue that raised section on the trunk body and slip the seal right over the raised section. As you can see, I could not put it on the trunk lid because of the customized Tbird I had made for the lid. Sooo, on it went onto the raised section around the trunk, as you can see by the picture.

Don't mean to contradict anyone but all three years 58,59, and 60 trunk seals were attached to the lid.
