Starter Issue. Major or Minor problem?

Spent the afternoon removing starter from 59 352.

The Bendix came out in pieces.

I can not find the "Anchor Plate" that holds the spring to the end of the shaft.

I can not locate it anyplace. I worry that it dropped into the flywheel housing.

Major risk to motor if this is the case?

    Dust Shield

Did you remove the bellhousing dust shield below the starter opening facing forward ?
You should be able to locate or fish out any of old starter drive parts.

Definitely remove the inspection cover and see if it comes out. I've seen them wedged between the flywheel and the bottom of the bell housing. It will at least damage your flywheel if you don't get it out.

I replaced the starter once for my dad,
decades ago (In a parking lot)

It was laying in the bottom of the bell hsg
