Wowzers - the '58 brought nearly $53K back in 2011 with an "undocumented" 430.

Guess the seller was trying to make it appear that it came with the 430 by using a VIN of H8YJ ? I'd like to get a look at those data plate rivets - probably not original. Maybe someone knows that it did come with the 430 - thus the high price. Seats look fairly used around the bottom edges - no air conditioning - but overall a nice one - not $53K nice but nice. Yep - I'd drive it.

The 60 resto mod. Different but nice as well. 428!!!!!! A/C, SUNROOF !!! power discs, lowered stance.

I'm on the fence as to whether I like the grille and rear bumper paint treatment.
Failures to me are the cutout in the hood for the battery cover and (sorry Anders) the tail lights. Don't really like the front center console replacement - maybe if it were black to match the rest of the console. Guess the electronic gauges go with the resto mod theme but I'd rather see classic style. Going to have to say no to the steering wheel too but still - Yep - I'd drive it.

If it was a real 430 it would have a "J" as the first digit. The "J" in the 4th digit indicates convertible.

The 430 wasn't available in '58 from factory, right?

Correct. But that doesn't meant some dishonest seller wouldn't try to pass off his '58 as having a factory 430.

Mike you are correct the 430 was not offered or produced in 58. Rumour has it that Ford thought of offering the 430 but that would have bumped the selling price up too much

As it was, the HT sold for about $2400.00 back in the day and Ford executives were good with the sell price. FYI The 58 Thunderbird won " Car of the Year " for 1958

Dan, you're right about the 430ci not being offered on the '58 T.B., but the price from what information that I got was between $3,600-$3,900 for the hard top.

Chris exactly as that would have made the 58 TBird above the reach of most of the buyers.

The Retractable Hard top was also considered for the Square-Birds, like the Skyliner, but wasn't to be because of the cost factor.

Those are remarkable to see operate but when they don't and the pistons fail
