I did the same as Carl. Had a number of small rugs for keeping anything from being dinged. (if you have paid to have them rechromed, the thought of them getting damaged in any way might bring on psychological trama . . .
Leaving things loose, especially in the front, can be important so that you get everything even and symmetric. There is definitely some "play" in the bolt positions. The back, as I recall, was more straightforward.
