Windlace clips - how do they install?

The first photo shows the original clip which has 2 edge mounted tabs which bridge adjacent holes. The next photos show the new clips which has center tabs but they do not engage...

And I should have added that the ball stud passes thru the end of the pitman arm and is I believe held in place with a castle nut and cotter pin.
