Control Valve to Ram Cylinder Lines

The two lines from the Power Steering Control Valve, to the Ram Cylinder.

I was wondering how many of you have two steel lines, and how many have two rubber hoses.

The shop manual shows two drawings, with steel lines in one, and rubber hose in the other.

Also, if anyone has additional information, did the steel lines replace the rubber hoses later on? Or the opposite?

My 2 owner 1960 430cid Bird still has 2 all steel lines Bart (as per our tele convo).

Mine has steel. I replaced them when with new steel I did my suspension rebuild.

So it looks like the 58 and 59 has rubber hose with 1/4 inch connectors, and the 60 has steel lines with 5/16 inch connectors.

Control Valve to Ram Cylinder Lines

Hi Bart,

You asked me what I had in the way of control lines on YellowRose. I wish this subject would have come up while I had her on a lift!:D However, I went out in the garage today and looked and felt down there. They look black, and feel like rubber. I am pretty sure they are. Otherwise, I would think they would be nice and shiny and hard to the touch.. :D

Thanks for checking Ray. They are most likely rubber.

My 58 has rubber, in fact I have a new line somewhere waiting to be installed

Orig was rubber. The ones the Auto Supplies sell and the TB suppliers sell are steel replacements.

I would think one would want flexible lines as hard lines would be susceptable to vibration failure.

I would think so too. Wonder why they went from rubber in 58 and 59 to steel in 60?
