I received this interesting email from Bill this morning, showing what he has been doing on his '60 Galaxie. I think you will find the 9 pix interesting!

"Ray, Thought you would like this. All work is under the skin. No change to outside appearance. Modifying 60 Galaxie to have and handle 500ish HP. Here is progress on rear end assembly. 3.7 posi. Bill"

Are those axle flanges welded on?

simplyconnected 10-23-2017 07:41 PM

I see a weld bead on the back side of the flange. What I don't see is a key or spline that may be behind the weld.

Glad you like it - Thanks
Dunno about key or spline. Have check that out.
Don't have posting pics figured out. Can I send more via Ray?

Sorry don't get on forum much. Must be missing a lot.
Busy with 19 cars, rental property, travel, beach home, landscaping, model building, and more....

DKheld 10-23-2017 08:56 PM

19 cars - WOW- no wonder you don't get on the forum very often.
That Galaxie sounds like a fun street project. Wish I had the nerve to go that route with my Tbird.

Thanks for the pics !!

Power steering
8 Attachment(s)
Installing power steering requires some fuss though steering will be easier, quicker, and tighter. With box near firewall the shaft must be shortened. Perfect time to add rag joint for less vibration. Hope pictures give you idea what is involved.

Why not rack and pinion steering? I installed that on my '59 Galaxie using an 'over the counter' Chevy rack gear and my Mustang pump. Your steering column bearing is beautiful. I made mine from 2" nylon round stock. It works nicely. - Dave

Know guy who had lots of trouble and expense with 57 Ford rack and pinion and still not happy with it. So went this way with box made to fit the 60.
