352ci Edelbrock 1406 or not ?

Hi guys,

I have a brand new 1406 Edelbrock with adapters in a box and I'm wondering if I should keep it for my Bird (I have a potential buyer).

Three options.

1) install the 1406

2) sell the 1406 and get a rebuilt Autoline carb from Rockauto.

3) get a rebuild kit and rebuild my original carb.

Which solution is the best according to your experience ?

Shoot !!!

To me the Edelbrock is far superior to the original Autolite 4100. I've used both and for performance and reliability I would go with the Edelbrock 1406.

Hi John:

so, for XMAS, wifey was kind enough to order me an Edelbrock 1406 for my '61 T-Bird. Since I found this quote, you must be familiar with this. I did the install last night and got stuck because the accelerator shaft does not align with the Ford Throttle adapter and does not work correct. The angle is off so it's not working. Are you familiar with this, and if so, how do I deal with it? Any recommendations? Should I try to change out the accelerator shaft? I can provide pics in a little bit...

I don't use any adapter. As you can see by the picture I just put the accelerator rod through the hole and use clips on the back side to hold it. This is on a Squarebird but your '61 should be similar. You may have to adjust the rod slightly to get full travel.

OK!

Ok! Then I probably then don't need that adapter they sold me (it was only a few bucks. I will see if I can get that to work today!

I'll post when done.

To what did you hook that spring?

Hi John:

To what did you hook the spring into? I am thinking I need to modify theseparate piece that the autolite had on it to take the spring...

I used the same piece. You can see it in the picture. It's on the same bolt as the Autolite.
