1960 gas cap

A simple questions, anyone have a photo of what an original 1960 gas cap looks like? I've seen various types, however, I'm not sure who's correct. It would be great to hear from an Original Owner, who didn't leave the cap behind as a gas station:)

I know the Ford part number, just need a description or better yet a photo (both sides would be appreciated). Neil

1960 gas cap

Since I am not sure if my gas cap is an OEM cap, but I think it is, I hope someone who knows that their cap IS an OEM one will post a picture of it. The Tbird parts vendors listed in the Advertisements Forum have them and I assume they are the OEM versions. Take a look at the Bird Nest website, for example, and look up gas caps. Their website is:

The original caps had ears on them. In fact the prongs on the new style caps prevent the license plate from closing all the way. Here's a repro cap that's similar but not exact.

The gold-colored one above can be found at most auto parts stores today; it's nothing all that special....

Made by "Stant".

Thanks John, that's what my gas cap looks like as well.
I don't think the wing ones were on the 58, 59 or 60 birds.
The cap seems to fit a little loose and I think that relates to the vent ability.

The gold colour ones with the wings are a vented cap. I understand that the vented gas caps came out latter. Possibly in 61?

I'm guessing John's picture is closer to the original. Saved me buying one!

Squarebirds used VENTED caps only. They came out much earlier than '61.

Dad bought the car new and I was to young to keep an eye on the gas cap the first few years -

Pretty sure mine is original. It has a small hole (not visible in the pic) in the rubber ring.

I know for sure this one has been on there 25 years.

That looks very much like my 1960 T-Bird's gas cap Eric.

I bought my car from the original owner back in 1991. I'm 90% sure mine would be the original cap too...

My car has a locking cap which I kinda think is original, but I have no way of knowing. It was on the car when Grandpa bought it, from the original owner I believe, in 1978. Car is tucked away for the winter, so I can't post pics.
