RE: HEADLIGHT SWITCH
It is not the easiest procedure to remove the headlight switch. It is hard to maneuver it out of the dash aand there are a lot of wires attached to it. You first must push the knob all the way in. Then reach under the dash and push the small spring-loaded button on the right side of the body of the switch. At the same time pull out the knob. Now you can use a screwdriver to remove the bezel of the switch which hold it in the dash. The fun part then is pulling the switch out from under the dash, replacing it, reconnecting the wires and then getting it back into place.

RE: HEADLIGHT SWITCH
I would add that you really ought to first disconnect the positive lead to the battery as the switch has hot leads to it and your
dash area is well grounded so a short is easy to cause.
it is most likely that the rheostat coil in your switch has
burned out, causing your dash lights to fail. If you don't want to buy a new switch, you can fairly easily solder a jumper wire around the rheostat. Your dash lights will work fine, although you will no longer be able to vary their intensity (a feature I have always considered fairly worthless).
