    Trim Codes 72, 73 & 74

The trim code on my '60 convertible is 72, indicating vinyl & nylon cloth seat covers. I found a source for the material (SMS Auto Fabrics), but wanted to see if anyone has any experience with the material and/or the vendor?

    Thanks!

    Trim Codes 72, 73 & 74

Todd, I have heard of SMS Auto Fabrics before and in fact, their information is listed in our Advertisements Forum. I can tell you that most all the Tbird parts houses listed in our Advertisements Forum get their car seat covers from Thunderbird Headquarters. So if you were to order from the Bird House in Delaware, or the Bird Nest in Oregon, or any of the others, they are going to ship you a set that they, in turn, have ordered from Tbird Hqs, who makes our seat covers these days. You might give either one of them a call, as they will be glad to help you and talk with you about seat covers. You can also do some price comparison shopping between the major Tbird parts houses to see who has the cheaper prices. Keep in mind that they all, for the most part, get them from the same company...

I've ordered various thing from SMS in the past and have had good experiences. The vinyl/cloth seat covers aren't being reproduced by anyone so ordering the fabric and having the covers custom made is your only option if you want to keep it original.

        Trim Codes 72, 73 & 74

I just talked with Don at the Bird Nest and he verified, As John said, that no one is making reproduction vinyl/cloth Trim Code 72, 73, 74 seat covers. He confirmed that SMS Auto Fabrics can sell you the material as they have tons of OEM/NOS seat cover material. He also said that he thinks they have now gotten to the point where they can sew the material for you and deliver completed seat covers. I just confirmed that with them. If you send them the old seat covers to use as a pattern, they can sew you a new set, front and back. The cost for that set will be $1,500-$1,600. If you just buy the material and have some professional interior guy sew seat covers for you will cost about $95 a yard for cloth material, and $55 a yard for vinyl. The total cost for both materials is about $600. Don said that SMS has been around a long time and is a very good company. Here is a link to their page where they show the Trim Code 72, 73, 74. Scoll down to the 1960 Tbird area.
