I am digging deep into my dash on my 63 hdt. to get to the a/c evaporator. I noticed that the rubber accordian boot between the housing and front register is trash. I can't find these in any of the parts books, does anyone have a source? It may be something that I have to make. Anyone have any suggestions on making one?

A/C rubber accordian boot replacement
Hi Don,
Before you get into making one, call Don at Bird Nest, if you have not done so. Tell him what you need and they might have a replacement for it off one of their parts cars. If not, call John Draxler at Thunderbird Ranch, or Bob at Bob's Bird House or some of the other parts houses that specialize in old parts. You will find them listed in the Advertisements Forum below. Let us know how you make out.

I had enough left of my original to make a pattern and fabricate one out of 1/16"-thick sheet rubber/neoprene (and no, sorry, I didn't save the pattern). Since I did that in 2003 there has been a person who took the time to make a mold and form replacements, but I don't know if he still does this or not, plus I forgot who did this. The original was not pleated like an accordion, by the way, so fabricating one out of rubber sheet is definitely a good option.Alan H. Tast AIA, LEED AP BD+C
