    Disc conversion

Well all, finished up the right side brake swap. Also installed new tie rods, ball joints and bushings along with the spindle and disc brake. Some pictures added to my photobucket. Check them out here: http://photobucket.com/T-bird_in_progress
I took the sway bar off to clean it up after everything got installed , so it looks a bit out of place in the pics. I cleaned up the wheel well as best I could then under coated it all again. Looks 10 times better! Got new wheels coming this week so I can put on the right side, wheel the old girl outside and turn her around to push her in the car hole the other way so I can do the left side. Have to do it like that because my garage is kinda small. I'll upload more pictures when I get it all finished. Should have the entire front end finished in a week or so, depending on how much more I have to clean up the other side and time permitting. When it's all done THEN I can finish the engine bay and install the engine. Can't wait! Should start her up in a couple of months... We'll see. Thanks for all your replies and advice!

    Wow

Looking back at the starting point - man have you been busy. It's really paying off though - looking super! Those must be the Granada spindles - you will really like the stopping power and control.
That's a nice looking master and booster - looks like you will have a nice modern braking system to protect that investment - cool.
I remember when I finished mine - such a relief when it all worked great. Paid for itself the frst trip. Had a fellow in a Crown Vic who had just passed me on the interstate then merged in front. 2 seconds later he locked up his brakes because a truck on the other side of the road hit the median cable and appeared to be headed to our side of the road (upsidedown). Had no choice but to lock up mine and hold on - much to my surprise it stopped as good as the Crown Vic with room to spare. If I had the drums I would have been all over the back of his car because we were traveling @ 80 mph and he didn't leave much room when he merged (think the was checking out the Tbird in the rear view and didn't realize how close he was).
Is your engine finished and ready to go in? Going to have to rebuild mine - after 109K it just too tired and leaky to keep pushing it - espically the valves and guides.
Looks like you might need a seal between the master and booster - what's the story on that?

Really nice job - that car was lucky to find you.

      Disc Conversion update

      Eric,
WOW! I hope I don't have to check my brakes the way you did. After all the work I have been putting into this car, I'd scare myself stupid!!! Hahahahahaha!!

Well, I started the other side Saturday, and after cleaning up everything all I have to do is just install the bushings, ball joints and brake. Have you ever tried cleaning up 20+ years of dirt and sand? I swear I believe I brought half the state of New Mexico back here with me. Hahahahaha! I picked up my new wheels for the front today, American Racing Torque Thrust D's. I just uploaded them onto Photobucket, check the out. I put the right side on and man, does it look good! 16"x8", 225-55's. My disc conversion gave me new spindles, and they drop the front end 1 1/2". So I can't wait to see what she looks like after that. Here's the link again. http://photobucket.com/T-bird_in_progress

Now my engine, I rebuilt it a couple of months ago. Right now I'm just waiting to finish the front end before I put it and the transmission in. This way I have plenty of room to get to the steering and suspension. I also rebuilt the power steering pump and control valve. The actual cylinder I can't rebuild but I'll get a new one eventually. Right now my engine is just chilling on the engine stand, sitting in the closet in my garage. After I finish the suspension and brakes, I have to clean up the engine bay, prime and paint it, then run the wiring. THEN I will install the engine.

As for the brake booster, there is a boot seal that goes through the firewall. What you see in the picture is a big spacer to move the booster/master cylinder forward. My car has A/C, so the evaporator would hit it if there wasn't a spacer. It actually came stock with the booster UNDER the dash! But, it seems I couldn't use that one anymore with the new brakes. Oh well, the new one looks sweet!
