So this unit just runs all the time when the key is in the run position?

Vacuum Booster

It would run constantly, if you hooked it up that way, with the key on. However, I intend to do what one of the other guys said he did when he installed his. Fuse the line, and put it on a switch to turn it on/off. I will probably get a little micro-flip switch to turn it on when I need it. That way the power will not be on the unit all the time. I will see if I can install the switch right below the windshield wiper knob somewhere. If not, I will find some other place to put it close by where it will not be seen or be obtrusive.

The unit is marked as a Brake Booster, but it can work as a vacuum source for one's windshield wipers, providing the extra vacuum to make those wipers run on a constant supply of vacuum instead of when they want to...

So you would only turn the booster on when you need it, or just run it in concert with the wipers being on?

I would think if you wanted it on the entire time that the wipers were working, you could wire it via a relay to the wiper switch, that is assuming of course that the wiper switch is electrical, for all I know it could just pull a rod that actuates some machanical method of getting the vacuum running.

I think the way one or more of our members has their vacuum booster set up is that when it is raining, they turn on their windshield wipers at the Wiper knob, reach down to where they have their power switch for the vacuum booster and flip it on. Now you have 20+HG vacuum boost on the wipers. When the rain stops, you flip off the switch and turn off the wipers..

At least that is my understanding, and how I intend to install mine.

that's what I did.

If I was caught in the rain, I flipped on my little toggle switch to activate the pump, then used the wipers as needed.
When the rain stopped, I turned off the wipers and then flipped the pump off.

It doesn't hurt for the pump to run a little without the wipers being activated - it had an internal relief valve.

My thought was: why would I want the vacuum pump running and drawing electrical power if I wasn't using the device (wipers) it was connected to. That's why I had a toggle.

auxiliary switches

Ray,

The removable panel beneath the radio is a convenient spot for any switches. Easy to install, access, out of sight and within easy reach.

If you wanted to be real clever maybe you could get the wiper switch, which is a cable (like the throttle control on a lawnmower to provide linear motion to move a lever) to the wiper motor to move the switch off and on when you trun on the wipers...................
