i have a 1961 t bird with a 390. I was told when i got it that the distributor was worn.i put on new cap,rotor,petronix pointless ignition but was wondering if the actual distributors can and do go bad.If so what kind of problems should i be looking out for...

Wear on the shaft. Usually you can notice a kind of wobble or loose side-to-side feeling on a worn shaft to dist. housing. That is the best way I can describe it for you. Anyone else....?
