    Emergency Brake Cable

I have answered a few questions on this board. I hope someone can answer one of mine.

I want to replace the emergency brake cable conduit on my 1960 Golde Top. I bought a reproduction conduit and cable. It has the right part number, but looks much different than the original. The conduit is rubber while the original is coiled cable casing. That does not bother me as much as the mounting ends look completely different.

Does anyone have experience with these repro emergency brake cables.

    RE: Emergency Brake Cable

I believe mine are original. I have seen those repo ones. I believe Ford actually upgraded to the hard rubber casing (for anti corrosion purposes). Being in GM parts and having seen this, you do have to be carefull of the ends. I ordered a set of E/Brk cables for one of my long time customer's 72 C/10 P/up. They had changed part #'s 3 or 4 times (The frt one was Discon), Anyhow the ends at the wheels were different. We wound up having to order later model drum brk hardware to make it work. I suspect that's where you'll be with your TB. Add self adjusters while you're at it. That really helps. I believe all Ford's 61 & newer have em.

Have you ever replaced Tail light bulbs? Are those sockets difficult or what? Mine's in the re-assembly mode at the body shop right now.
Looks pretty good so far (Back to Corinthian White)
    What a project !!!!

      RE: Emergency Brake Cable

Thanks for the info on the origins of that emergency brake cable. Decades ago I converted my 1959 Thunderbird to the 1961 self-adjusting system. It is a bolt in. The only problem is on one side the star adjuster does not line up with the access slot.

Changing a bulb on a 1958 and 1959 is a 5 minute job. On a 1960, it is a project. What were the enginneers thinkin when they designed that assembly?
