Trunk Light Option -- Anyone Know?

Has anyone seen, know of, or have a photo showing the optional trunk light for the Squarebird?

Mac's has one listed for the 58-66, but I don't know if this looks like the original. It must work on a mercury switch, because I don't see what makes it turn on on/off.

Yes, that light has a mercury switch. It is Ford light from the early sixties. I have a diagram of the trunk light for the Squarebird.

When you get time, maybe you can post that diagram. I haven't got a clue as to where it goes, or how it's mounted.

Meanwhile, I'll go ahead and order the light from Mac's.

      Thanks.

          Thanks Alexander.

I'll post a photo when I get it done later on. Running the hot lead from the front will be the deal.

I was fortunate yesterday to spend time with a 60 HT on it's last day. This was a 430HT, A/C, Rose (V) with a black leather interior (86). Nicely optioned car, spot light, trunk antenna, W/S washer, full power, trunk light.

I pulled the trunk light and will post pictures later. It has definite markings, none are Ford or Fomoco.

I slavaged want little was left and useable in addition to buying the entire driveline. I asked the owner to have the yard cut the 430 mounts out, only hope they will do so. Took the data plate and another plate stamped Wixon 2364, will also post pictures.

              Ken:

I'll be interested in seeing what the trunk light looks like before you put it in -- as it was pulled.

Glad you were with the old girl on her last day -- but still sad.

The light doesn't appear to have been assembly line installed, the wire wasn't neatly routed as in the diagrams that Alexander posted, but it could still be dealer installed.
The wire was spliced into the trunk harness and routed thru the underside trunk bracing. The light is 2.5" dia x 1.375 " high. Maybe someone will know if this is the correct light for the squarebird era.

The following is stamped on the cover:

                JOHN W. HOBBS CORP.
                PAT NOS.
                2107.570
                2107.768
                MADE IN
                USA
                SPRINGFIELD ILL

The numbers may not be correct as they are hard read as the die was so small.

Trunk Light Option -- Anyone Know? Reply to Thread

I Googled the company name and location. The J.W. Hobbs Corp. is still in existence! It is part of the Honeywell Corp. Below is their information. This light is probably no longer being manufactured according to the person I spoke with. She would need their part number. If you can find that part number on the unit she will be able to tell you if they still make it. Perhaps giving her the patent numbers would help? I looked through some of their catalogs and could find nothing like it anymore.

Mac's stocks a reproduction of the same one.

                      See my first post above.

Trunk Light Option -- Anyone Know?

                        Hi Bart!

Thanks for that information! I see it listed on Mac's p118 as a hood light and on p155 as a trunk light. Same unit. C2RZ-15A700-A. I am going to order one of each so I have both areas covered. I am glad to see someone is making a reproduction of the original light!

I found a couple of headlight cover screws today, thank goodness. I will have one as a spare. That was good news! I am still going to make a trip to the ACE Hardware store just to see if they happen to have it in stock. If so, I will certainly let ya'll know!

There is one on ebay right now. They say it's out of a 66 but supposed to fit 59-66? #200200117672

I went to buy two of those trunk lights from Mac's, one for the trunk and one for the hood. They are no longer available from them.I will have to try someone else. Just thought I would let you know...

                              Trunk Lite

I was able to review the pics Alex posted as they were part of the 60 electrical assembly manual from Osborne.

The base part number is listed as a trunk lite, but the engineering part crosses to a B7S number that I cannot find in my parts catalogue. The light assembly appears to be very similar to the 64-66 trunk light assembly.

I reviewed my up to mid year 59 parts book and unfortunately there is no listing for a 58 or 59 trunk light assembly using a couple of the crossed base numbers.

Not sure what any of this means but it appears that the trunk light was not available until the 1960 model year.

The pics posted of the round one with a hole in the side is a C3R or C2R piece that crosses to an under hood light for the 64-66 birds. Being as how I have 2 of these NOS in the box they were not an option for the squarebird, when the birds were new.

As for the VTCI rules saying yes to the trunk light, this is one of the areas we did not finish research on prior to issuing the text. Therefore if trunk light installed on any square, it would be acceptable as of today.

The round ones do appear from time to time on ebay and usually I find them under 1964 tbird of tbird nos.

                              Good Luck
