'58-'60 2 piece tonneau anyone more info?

Just finished an auction on ebay. A bit strange, starting bid was 125, buy it now was set at 200. I put in a bid and got it eventually for the opening/start bid of 125, 3 bids were made but still I got it for the first bid, strange? Anyway my max was higher.
But I took a gamble, new in the bag, nice looking pics too good to be true? I expected more competition in bidding, is there something wrong with it?
I never heard of a 2 piece tonneau cover for the squarebirds, I knew 1 piece covers were made for the '61 to '66 and occasionally adapted for the squarebirds but a 2 piece especially made for the 58-60 birds? I had contact with Ray and Dave already but it is a bit of a mystery.

article number on ebay is 190961899540

It's certainly not made for a '58-60 Thunderbird going by the shape of the seats. Squarebird seats are much more rounded. By the emblem I'm thinking it's made for a 2002-2005 model to cover the top when it's down. The emblem is a dead give away that it's for a later model.

Yes John I was afraid something might not be right since there were no real other bidders. For a tonneau that would have been correct for the squarebird I would expect several more bidders.
I have it send to my friend in California, anyway he has a squarebird and also a 2003 Tbird, he can try which one it would really fir and see from there, he might be able to use it than for his newer bird. Too bad.

I wouldn't give up quite yet. If this part does not fit a Squarebird then the item is misrepresented and the seller must give you a refund, if you ask for it. It may fit and you may have a very good deal. I just don't know because it is a custom part. The price is good and sometimes your luck is good, too.

As far as emblems go, maybe the price of more current model emblems is cheaper than the aftermarket ones for Squarebirds. I think I would rather have real Ford emblems than repops. - Dave

yes, follow up, just got a message today, and a refund from the seller, that he was building a new garage and one of the workers backed the truck out and ran over the tonneau that was packed and placed on the floor behind the truck. So much for this story.

I'm not going to say this is did or did not happen, the important thing is you have a refund. I have often seen unusual "accidents" happen that prevented the shipment of parts. I will speculate the seller realized the mistake of the application and the value of the tonneau for the right car and did or will re-sell it for more money (new ones are in the $1000 range). No fraud intended and you have a refund.

I'm with Joe. Keep your eye out in the future for this item to reappear on the sale block for more money.

It happened to me. Robin's b'day was coming up and I found a real good eBay deal on a beautiful sapphire ring. Lo and behold, after winning the bid, the seller (all of a sudden) couldn't find the ring to ship! She eagerly refunded my PayPal with no fanfare.

I was hopping mad. They wasted my time and I passed up another good deal because I knew I was the highest bidder on this one.

I went to 'arbitration' over this one... You know what eBay told me? "We cannot force sellers to sell, or buyers to buy. The best we can do is get a refund, and that is all."

Sure as ****, the ring reappeared months later, for a higher price and from the same seller.

I am sorry this happened to you, Ronald. Transactions are hard enough when done domestically. You guys across the pond must stick your necks out much farther and these sellers only care about money. - Dave

I see that Joe and Dave were thinking the same thing I was about this cover... You might very well see that item up for sale again, down the road...

I imagine that a few people notified him of his "error" within a short time after the ad went up.
