58 cooling system ? - the small fitting for the temp se

    Is that part pressed in.

I discovered over the weekend that the one on my car has caroded away now I need to get the remaining material out of the manifold to replace the part.

Can I do that from the front by pulling the water pump and not pull the manifold? I am about 100% certian that the manifold has never been off the motor.

Any good tips on how to remove the remaining material?

    Thanks for the help

That part for the 1958 and 1959 Thunderbird has been reproduce. I see it on eBay ll the time. The T-bird vendors may have it also.

You need to remove the water pump to replace that part.

Thanks for the help, I found and ordered one from the birds nest in Portland.

I pulled the waterpump and the rest off last night and managed to get the remainder of the part out with a small cold chisel.

When I go and start cleaning up all the parts I have pulled, is the waterpump supposed to be the standard Ford Blue? I am curious becuause it looks like someone has spray painted the motor and most of the hardlines, hoses, etc. a blue that is darker than a lighter blue that is showing through in various sports.

I was going to paint the generator and powersteering pump black along with the brackets pully and the fan is currently white?

Thanks again for all the help

Fuz is the expert here on 1958's. The blue engine color in 1958 is not the standard Ford blue - it is a lighter color as you observe. The water pump was painted with the engine, so it is also blue. The generator and all the brackets are a semi-gloss black. Eastwood sells a good engine detail black. The power steering pump is black, but the resevior is a argent color. I used the argent color for wheels from Eastwood. It looks right.

Alex Is correct in all his info. Did a beter job than I could have.

I only wish we had come up with a formula for the engine color but as of today it still eludes us. The best description is Ford Light blue.

I had mine formulated from an intake manifold and will try and get the formula tommorrow.

Ah, so what you are telling me is that I can't just run to the local paint mart and pick up a can of light Ford blue to redo the waterpump etc.

That would be cool though if you could post the info so I can have a local company make me up some.
