Drivers side exhaust manifold mystery answered

For about a year now I had been unable to get an answer from anyone "precisely" what the difference is between a standard FE drivers side exhaust manifold and a Squarebird one. When I tried to fit a regular one loaned to me, the flange studs interfered with the frame cross member. It had nothing to do with the steering box. I purchased a new Squarebird one from Partsetel. Of course it fit perfectly...Thank you Carl. Notice the Squarebird manifold will tuck in closer to the engine block.
So everyone can see and for future use I am attaching pictures of both side by side...enjoy...Martin

    That is good information.
What is the application and casting no. of the one that does not fit.
My '60 has later manifolds on it and they work ok. They are pretty close at the sector and the front flange stud is close to the cross menber but does not interfere. It is the style that uses a donut type gasket and if I remember right is has a C3--- casting number.

      Martin,

Your old exhaust manifold looks like a FT truck series manifold, most likely a with a casting of XXTE 9431 B, the first two characters will be the casting year such as C5.

The passenger side exh manifolds differ also from the car line [FE] and the truck line [FT]. The truck manifold outlet is straight out the back, while the car manifold is pointed downward at a 45 deg angle [approx], hopefully you have the correct one. See attached picture of a pair of Truck Manifolds.

Thanks for posting the comparison pictures for all to see

Rem...the casting number on the one that did not fit was C5TE9430-0.
GTE427...Yes the manifold on the passenger side does exit straight back. I had a MEL 430 engine in the car, so the exhaust pipes have to be modified in any event I believe. The casting number on it is C5TE9431B. I do believe they came off a F-100...Martin
