    Door Weatherstripping

Thanks for everyone's reply's. My neighbour was over on the weekend and I showed him the problem I was having. We looked at the piece that came down the vent window then wrapped onto the door and decided to compare it to the drivers side. Oh my, that area of weatherstrip was much thicker on the passenger side than the driver side. Maybe at least a 1/4" Also it seemed much denser than the drivers side. Well I got pi@$%^^@^#ed off and pulled it all off the door, now I have a bunch of small pieces and a door covered in glue. I called Don at the Birdsnest and he said that because I bought the weatherstrip at the start of 2010 they would only give me a credit of 40$ on the purchase of a new set. I told him to send me the new set so it will cost me 40$ and I will only use the right hand side. Don also mentioned they have never had any complaints about the weatherstrip. Also I bought the one made in the USA so I imagine it probably came from Dennis Carpenter. I have yet to put on the driver side weatherstrip but I replaced the weatherstrip along the roof where the windows go up into and I notice the door hits the strip at the front top, up by the vertical windshield chrome piece. I also had to adjust the vent window as it hit the same piece at the bottom.

And such is life when dealing with reproduction parts for a car that is 50-some years old.... I can tell you I'm grateful for every reproduction part out there, even when they need some "massaging" in order to work.

Playing with door/window alignment, new glass, tinkering with window mechanisms, and installing new weatherstrippings took me pretty much ALL of last winter.

Lots of fiddling around, thats for sure.

    It's a BIG, time-consuming job.
