    Seat covers

My 60 has (what's left of them) all black leather seat interior. I want to replace it with vinyl being 1/3 the cost. In vinyl, I can only find 2 tone black and white. Does anyone know of a distributor that has all black?

    Seat covers

    Hi Martin,

You can get all black in leather, I think. As for what you are looking for, I am not sure. My suggestion would be to let your fingers do the walking and look in the Advertisements Forum at the listing of the Tbird parts vendors and call each of them. Most vendors get their parts from the same manufacturer(s), but in the case of seat covers, you might find one who gets them in all black.

Originally, the seat covers for the 1960 in leather were all solid colors, and the vinyls had two colors. The patterns were different between the leather and vinyl also, which harmonized with the door and quarter trim. To get a solid color in vinyl would be a very special order.

I'm pretty sure you won't be able to find solid color covers in vinyl. A good upholstery shop should be able to reproduce the ribbed inserts but it may wind up costing as much as the leather covers.

Ya well at $1550 for leather, I'm sure I could live with 2 tone black and white.

Martin go to our vendors section and look up TBird Ranch. He had to part out a lot of squarebirds awhile ago ( to keep in line with the county ordinace} and he may have what you are looking for.I can tell you, from my 60 that the leather seats are way more comfortable and also last a lot longer if looked after

I decided to replace my seat covers on my 60 convertible and someone in the past had replaced the seat covers with aftermarket covers. I discovered that whoever did the covering just put the covers over the factory ones. The trim code was 56 which was black and white interior. I removed the added covers to reveal the factory seat covers and to my surprise the seats were all black vinyl. Every thing was black except the rear of the front seats which had the white push on panel. I have never seen or heard of an all black vinyl seat on a 60. I can tell that the seat covering was put on at the factory. Seems strange that this option is not listed anywhere. The back seats are all blackvinyl also.
The pictures are of the seats after I removed the added seat covers and before cleaning them up.

Since all black vinyl wasn't offered from the factory I can only guess that the inserts were replaced first then the covers were put on later. The original inserts didn't last very long, maybe ten years at best on the drivers seat.
