  • 1959 Imperial

    Got a 1959 Imperial Crown (middle of 3 model line up).
    Time to stop buying cars. New garage will be full.
    What prompted us to look at Imperial is those magnificant fins. Plus it was close to home. Around 30 mile distance. 1000+ mile distance is typical. Occasionally something is in SF Bay area at 800ish.
    No overhead cost of traveling to see it and of transport cost getting it home. As was with Edsel wagon.

    Factory: a/c, power seat & windows. All work.
    Rebuilt 413 4V. Rebuilt 3-speed automatic.
    Rechromed bumpers. New brakes. Perfect glass.
    Needs: door locks fixed, gas gauge fixed (sender?), tires.
    Minor rust on lower panels. Repair during winter.
    Will take to suspension shop for inspection, replace as needed.

    We now have these three land yachts.

    Cadillac 225 81.5
    Imperial 226 81
    Lincoln 227 80.1

    Some day, with friends help can drive all three to a car show.

      The front end seems to me like...I really don't know. Like it doesn't quite go with the rear. But the styling of the rear is amazing. Nice cockpit, too.

        What a wonderful car with luxury appointments like pushbutton Torqueflight trans, AirTemp A/C, all-power and drop down arm rests. Look at how huge the double-sheave generator is and how long the belts are. I bet it has torsion bar suspension.

          "you own three of my favorites" - very much three favorites of ours too. Feel fortunate to have such a trio. All found close to home with Imperial being furthest away.
          Closest was Cadillac. Was in a chicken coop!
          Having grown up knowing front-to-rear look of Imperial, front seems as it should be to me.
          All three have style of 50s to early 60s excessiveness which is portrayed delightfully in most american cars of that era.
          These are sorta the most excessive.
          Yes,,, Detroit iron from a time of real cars.

            I like it simply because you don't see many of these on the roads today. Not like the '65 Mustangs & '57 Chevys, or 1957 T-Birds....

              Is rare to see on road. Don't remember a last time I saw one.
              Still in trans shop. Waiting on two more parts.
              Got a set of tires to put on when drivable.

                  Have a tire tale for you.
                  Imperial is on rack raised up at transmission shop. No weight on tires. No movement.
                  Boom --- tire blows. Came with weary looking retreads and I had new tires at home.
                  Dismounted all wheels and transported in back of pickup to tire shop for mounting new tires and returned them to transmission shop.

                  First time that was known to happen at transmission shop.

                    Bill! That is something else! That is a puzzler. Thanks also for posting the pix of the Lincoln. They are neat cars. I always liked my 80's somethings Lincoln Continental's. Someone else did also, since they stole my first one! Never got it back, never found out what happened to it...
