Modified Mufflers

How do you all feel about modified (non original) mufflers on your birds for a louder more aggressive sound? I find that my originals are pretty growly and nice sounding already. But I am curious.

For that matter, how many of you are purists and would rather keep everything original including the things that cannot be seen?

I have seen cars at the shows with various modifications (rims, exhaust pipes, and of course a lot lot more). And I have also seen those who are keeping things pure and exactly as they were off the assembly line.

I once had a '60 convertible that had the old style cherry bomb mufflers on it. Even though I'm something of a purist I thought it sounded pretty cool compared to the stock mufflers. If I had unlimited funds I would prefer a car that looked totally stock on the outside and interior but with fuel injection, disc brakes and rack and pinion steering.

Modified Mufflers

Kirsten, if you like the growly sound of your mufflers you have, hopefully a mechanic can tell you what you have. They could be the OEM mufflers that were on the car when it left the plant. Or they could be something else. They look like they could be OEM, but then I am no muffler expert.... If they are OEM, and you still like the sound, then all you have to do is buy a couple of new OEM mufflers...

It appears you have a stock muffler with a crack in it. That will certainly add to the growl.

I have what looks like stock mufflers (with no cracks )
and they are super quiet. I don't remember my moms 60
being loud at all, and I spent many years growing up in
the back of that thing.

Hah. So besides being loud, anything negative to be aware of because of that crack?

Not until it gets worse to the point where it tees off the neighbors.
