60 Sunliner 352 valve cover paint.

My valve covers and air cleaner are blue. I've seen the following color codes listed for this blue in multiple places.

    Ditzler Enamel: DQE-12007
    Ford#: MIJ-951

Now my problem is, where do I actually buy this paint? Apparently it's some type of turquoise. I just haven't been able to find anything current that cross references these codes.

If you go to any auto paint store and give them the M1J-951 number they can mix it for you. Some paint stores can load it in an aerosol can if that's how you want it. They also sell small glass bottles with an aerosol canister that you can load yourself. That's if you don't want to go the compressor/spray gun route.

Thank you for the idea. I just called an auto paint store and they can't find anything on the Ford code M1J-951. I've only seen this code listed on different forums like this one. I can't seem to find any reference on where this code came from to make sure it is correct. Any other ideas? Thanks.

That paint code was listed in his initial post as MIJ-951 NOT M1J-951... When searching for the DQE color code of 12007, I found this.

This search shows that it is a GMC color called Cape Blue. It did not come up under Ford.

Alan Tast was the one that originally posted those paint codes. I don't know where he got the Ford M1J number.

That GM color looks pretty close.

60 Sunliner 352 valve cover paint.

I have been doing a search for that M1J-951 and MIJ-951 code and kept coming up with nothing on many paint websites. Then I started looking for the DQE-12007 number and got that information on paintref.com. That is a website that I use a lot when I am looking for paint colors. They have a ton of information going wayyyy back and covers a ton of cars, models and years.

"HazeGray", that color (on your '60 352cid) reminds of the factory valve cover color on a 1959 Ford Fairlane, with a 332cid 2-barrel carb engine! The 1959 352cid 4-barrel Fairlane/Galaxie 500's & T-Birds all used same darker & more common Ford Blue.

I have seen that cape blue on the paintref website. I guess that just confuses me more because what I have is much more blue looking. So is that cape blue correct? Here's a link to a pic of what I have. The spray can laying next to the cover is old ford blue. I bought that because I thought that was it. It's a bit darker than what mine currently look like.

What you have is the standard Ford blue used in the late 50's and early 60's on most 352's. I've tried a number of spray cans that are supposed to be the correct color but have never found one that matches the original paint. Of course the original paint may have looked quite different when new. I've never tried getting it mixed using the correct paint formula. I'm pretty sure the turquoise color was not used after 1959.
