  • Vent door closes when I turn corners.

Hi everyone, I have a 1966 Town Landau, when I am running with the air conditioner on it will be venting out of the vents fine until I turn a corner, then the big vent door behind the dash slowly closes, once I straighten the car out after a few seconds the door slowly opens again. I assume it is a vacuum problem. Has anyone experienced this, if so which vacuum hose needs attention? Thanks!

The fact that it only happens when you turn a corner leads me to believe it's engine/low rpm related rather than a bad hose. When the rpms go down the vacuum drops. The vacuum canister is supposed to hold enough to supply a steady vacuum at low rpms or when the brake is applied. I would make sure the canister does not have a leak or the check valve is good.

If you have a vacuum gauge you can do a vacuum test to try and isolate where the problem is. The shop manual has detailed instructions in the A/C section. It's possible that you have a bad actuator on the vent door or a bad hose but I would think it would happen all the time and not just on turns.
