New Forum for 1964-66

I have set up this forum for discussion of the last of the unit body four seater Thunderbirds - the 1964 to 1966 T-Birds. Stylewise they resemble the 1958-60 models more than the 1961-63, therefore the series is sometimes referred to as Squarebirds II.

FINALLY, a forum for *MY* favorite Thunderbirds, the 1964-1966. Perhaps far from the most sought after today, and not especially the 'Bird that pops into people's minds when the think "Thunderbird" ~ nevertheless, Sandy's #1 Bird. Nothing against ANY other year, but .... the one that pumps my blood a bit harder.
My 2nd favorite series is the 1967-1971 my 3rd the 1972-1976 and my 4th the 1958-1960. Then the original of 1955 to 1957. The 1961-1963 I never much cared for and welcomed the 1964 with open ams. Intensly disliked the 1977-1982. I'll take a 1964 T-B Sports Roadster (Kelsey Hayes wires & Tonneau options) and all the rest of the goodies, in triple black.

I need more of this type of forum!
I am in a country where they are pretty rare (I THINK there is another one 80 miles away) and have only seen one other '66 about 250 miles away!

There are no T-bird specialised repro dealers in the country and info on them is scarce except for (thankfully!) site like this.

New Zealand is pretty far away from where Thunderbirds were built.

Thanks for the welcome Alexander - after a lot of trial-and-tribulation I have got my '66 on the road here in New Zealand, it puts a smile on my face each time I take it out for a drive, seeing how it is winter here at the moment it's not too often I take it out - but roll on summer!!

Hi Dan,
My 'bird is a '66 Town Landau, Zcode (I think, it's a 390) and comes without air or cruise control. It is #457 of the Thuderbird Registry and would love to know its history/ownership.

It was an original Oregon car, black over metallic blue and I bought it in Salem in 2005 and got it back to NZ and on the road this year still on the Oregon licence plates.
The only changes I have had to make to it was new low-beam headlights so they dip (dim?) to the left instead of the right seeing as we drive on the left of the road over here.

Hi all, I have both and there both about as nice as there era. I,m sorry I got cut off. But i think the 60 might get by the 66

Same here with liking two T-bird models - I reckon the '63's are tops too - almost bought one in Bend, Oregon but at the last minute went for the '66 as the '63 needed new dash pad/door panels/carpet etc, things that cost a fortune to buy and get shipped to NZ and were already replaced or in very good order in the '66.

Sounds like the 66 was the better buy and of course, you get to maintain it's splendour. Keep up your posts on it's progress.
