  • WIper Motor vacum line routing

    My wiper motor is more than likely in need of a rebuild but some one disconnected the vacum lines going to and from the motor itself. Can some one explain where the vacume lines should be coming from and or going to?
    Some one put a loop of vacum line on the two nipples on top of the fuel pump. Is that part of the deal? :+

    There is a loop of tubing on top of your fuel pump vacuum booster probably because it stopped working, but I cannot be sure. Originally the the tube from the intake manifold went to the vacuum booster on the fuel pump and the then a return hose attached to the oher port lead to a metal line leading back to the windshield wiper was the way it was origianally set up. There is an in and out port on the vacuum booster on the fuel pump.

        While we are on this subject I would like to know what size hoses to use.

        There is a hose from the fuel pump to the wiper motor. I believe that it is 1/4" hose.

        Near the motor you have a "T" in the line and a smaller hose goes off to the washer switch and an identical (I think) hose comes back to the wiper motor (small fitting on the right side of Alexander's photo above). What size is THIS hose?

        I have vacuum leaks at the T fitting. I'm not sure if I have the
        wrong hose or I should use some small hose clamps there.

          I also have a question. On my car, Ive discovered two vaccuum lines that have been cut. These are the two that come out of the firewall about 5 inches from the hood latches on each side. Should this all be one hose? I know they are not supposed to just hang there like that...

            there should be two hoses going from the switch to the driver's Left through the firewall and then to the washer pump which is mounted near the power steering pump. Your pump may be long gone as many are.

            There would also be a hose to the two spray orifices right below the windshield with a T fitting somewhere to split it up. It may be the remnants of this that you are seeing. The hose would have come from the washer pump.

            do you still have either the washer pump or the bag?

            One point all this brings up is this: if you have components missing then there may be hoses wide open that are ruining the vacuum needed to drive the wiper motor. some time spent plugging open ends and checking for cracks in lines may be well spent.

              looking at the shop and sealant and trim maunal, it appears vacumn routing for windhsield whipers is:

              vacuum from the intake manifold/vacuum boost is routed to the wiper motor through the firewall on the passenger side right in front of it with a plug that is shown to have the capability to accept 3 hoses/cables.

              I recall that the washer pump switch is a "T" off of this line and is run inside of the car to the switch, and is the larger of three hoses connected to the swith. one of the two smaller hoses goes to the wiper motor for wiper operation time delay and is routed inside the car. the other smaller hose would go the the washer pump that is alledged to have been mounted on the engine fan belt. the washer fluid lines are routed on the firewall on the outside and through at the spary nozzles.
