    Auto adjusting brakes

I just installed self adjusting brakes on my 1960 bird. I just used the kit that works for the 61 and newer cars and it works just fine. Didn't really need to modify anyting

True, true. That kit is great. Cheap, it works, and is easy to put in. Less crawling under.
Funny story: the clerk asked me if I wanted fronts or backs, according to his computer. I just said two of each. Getting it apart, turns out they're left and right.

So you just used the Drum Brake Self Adjusting Repair Kit for a 1961 drum brake T-bird or am I reading your post wrong?

Here are the part numbers for the self-adjusting kits per Nyles ~ Tbird1044. There are a number of threads that detail these parts if you do a search.

The part numbers are Wagner H2512, H2513 and Raybestos H2544 and H2545. Napa also has them under their own part number. Most auto stores will have them or can get them. You can also get them from Rock Auto. They run between $6 and $10 dollars each. You need two of each side. You also need four of the self adjuster springs; Wagner H412. They come in pairs. They don't come in the kit.

          Napa Auto Parts:
Frt and Rr Right side UP80696 $8.69
Frt and Rr Left side UP80695 $8.69

Just a word of caution... Avoid puddles deep enough to soak your brakes. The self-adjuster hardware is not plated and the ratchet/jack screw tends to stick when rust forms.
Being extremely cheap, I re-used my original springs by drilling a new hole in the shoe. Works great and has been in service for many years..
These are 'standard' 11" brakes. That's why you need two right hand and two left hand. If you retrofit power disc brakes in front you only need one RH & one LH self-adjuster kits. - Dave
