  • Blower Motor Fuse Location?

    I am working with my father on his 1959 Thunderbird and his heater blower motor is not working. I pulled the motor and tested the orange and the red wires for power. When the switch is put on high, I get power on the orange wire and nothing on the red wire. When I put the fan selector on low, I get no power on the red or orange wires.

    Could this be a fuse issue? If so, where would the fuse be located? Any information would be much appreciated.

    If you are getting power on one of the wires then the fuse is good. Most likely it's the switch or wiring if you are not getting power from the switch to the motor. The orange wire is the high speed on the motor, the red is the low speed.

        I would first measure the switch itself to be sure its broken. It can easily be a wire problem as well.
        Not sure if you can find a new switch, but for sure you can find a used one (Carl Heller, partsetal).

          Those switches don't usually go bad only because they don't get much use. I would disconnect the wires from the switch and connect the black wire to the orange and then the black wire to the red. If both speeds work then it's the switch. If one or both don't work then it's either the wiring or the blower itself.

            Your switch is good, the fuse is good and they are working correctly. At the dash, the black wire (from the fuse) feeds the switch. Power comes out of the switch as RED or ORANGE (for Hi & LO speeds).

            The short BLACK WIRE ON THE MOTOR goes to ground through a bullet connector, to complete the motor's electrical path. I suspect this BLACK wire is not bonded to ground properly. Either the bullet connector is not right or the wire is loose to ground. - Dave

              He said he's getting power on the orange wire with the switch on high but not on the red wire with the switch on low. That indicates a switch or wire problem, not a ground problem at the motor.

                I pulled the blower motor and checked both high and low speed. They both worked. I will check the switch next.

                    Update

                    I was unable to check the blower switch as I returned home from my weekend visit. Next trip, I will check out the switch. Thanks for all the support.
