  • Speaker Grill Color

I need to repaint my black '58 speaker grill. Is there a specific black color?

Should this be a flat, semi gloss or gloss type paint?

    Thanks

    Leonard,

I would use semi-gloss black. That will match the console finish the best.

I agree with John on semi-gloss paint as the quickest fix.

I wonder if the original radio grille was coated with plastic rather than painted like the other interior panels? Had to leave my car at buddy's house 2 hours away due to a radiator failure or I'd go look and see how my original one was done.

Humm - how about a thin powder coating if you have a shop near-by that can do it?

        Speaker grill

        John and Eric,

I painted the grill with a semi gloss black.. To me, it looks great.

Thank both of you for the help!

I would be concerned that the grill might warp in the oven if powdercoating was done. I had my taillights powdercoated and the plates came out ok but the rings warped and the powdercoater had to ease them back into shape. Now the shop has a policy of you bring pot metal at your own risk.

              powdercoating speaker grille

I had my speaker grill powder coated. The color was a perfect match. And there was no damage to the grille.
