  • 1957 ignition coil

I think I read that OEM 12V ignition coils for early Thunderbirds had yellow tops. Will any of the yellow top 12V ignition coils work for a 1957?

    Thanks,
    Scott

Yes. Be advised that some 12volt coils have an internal resistance. The markings are normally stamped on the bottom of the coil.

If your coil has no internal resistance you will need a ballast resistor. Coils that need more resistance usually get hot to the touch, so hot that you cannot hold it.

The correct coils will say "USE WITH EXTERNAL RESISTOR" on the label.

        Thanks, you all!

In a previous post I had a radiator issue that ended up only costing me $100. I was fearing I was going to have to replace it or have it recored. It was two leaks on the tank. It was discovered to be a heavy duty four core.
