View Full Version : 9/16th bolt location pic to access convertible rear deck

I understand that I can access rear compartment by removing two 9/16 bolts in rear wheel well on a '64 convertible that will allow enough access to raise rear deck lid enough to create more access. Does anyone have a pic of bolt location or a more precise description where to find these bolts in the wheel well? Thanks!

Anyone? I assume it is to the rear of rear wheel but is it above wheel, inner or rear facing panel? Thanks!

Look where the wheel housing extends into the trunk. There's only one bolt there so you can't miss it. It may be covered by undercoating so if you feel a lump that's it.

Its directly behind the wood strip on my 63 & will be similar for your car.

Big thanks gentleman - I wonder if I can persuade owner to allow me to install solid state kit and skip the fiddling with ancient relays. My understanding is on this one owner car is that his late wife almost never used top which does not help matters - no doubt some ancient brake fluid in that system! Do I replace old brake fluid with new dot 3/4? Or will ATF suffice after a thorough flush? We ar selling this car btw, less than 60,000 on the odometer!

'64's came with Type F ATF, not brake fluid. If the car has sat for a long period of time without the top being used the relays are probably corroded. They can be taken apart and cleaned but if money is no object then the solid state relays are the way to go.

I think your car will have ATF in the system.

Do you have the Convertible Top Manual? It is a must have if you don't. If you are selling the car I would definitely not spend the time and money to replace the relays. Biggest problem has been the lack of use, and by now the probably of low oil in the pump. Get it to work and let the next guy spend the money.

Don't do anything until you study the manual.
