What is the best gasket for trany pan, cork or rubber and should I use any sealer on it?

I've used both over the years and haven't had any problem with either. I use Permatex to glue the gasket to the pan. I don't use any on the other side in case I need to remove it again. Make sure the bolt holes are flat and not sticking up. Put a straight edge ruler along the flange. If it doesn't sit flat then use a hammer and a piece of metal to make it even or it will leak.

And don't over torque it!

I use Permatex Black because it is oil-resistant RTV. Spread it thin on both sides of the cork gasket and let it cure for at least fifteen minutes before assembly.
Use Loctite (blue) on the bolt threads so you don't need to crank them down and ruin the gasket or distort the pan holes.
