Installed a power disc brake kit on a 57 with stock 292. It seems to have a lag in the power assist when applying the brake. Anyone else have similar issues?

Are you using the original style Midland remote booster?

Are you talking about the power assist unit under the dash. Did you install a modern booster and master cylinder when you converted to discs. You don't need to use the power assist unit with discs.

Nope, no lag. What kid did you buy?
When you apply pedal, that opens a vacuum valve. Push lightly and it opens it slightly. Push hard and the valve immediately opens all the way making it work like a servo valve.
Are you sure you have the booster set correctly to the M/C?
Did you properly bench bleed your new M/C?
Is all air out of the system?
Are all the firewall/booster/master bolts tight? Any flexing will subtract from pedal response. - Dave

Make sure you have a large enough vacuum fitting at the intake manifold hose- same size as the fitting to the booster, and the hose should be the correct size as well, and connect directly between the two fittings in a short run with no taps into it.

It was the original type remote booster.

Owner claims it was a Classic Disc brake kit. I actually thought it came from Thunderbird USA.

Check the Midland for vacuum leaks, properly functioning check valve, and re-blead the booster. The Midland units do add boost but they will not be as powerful as our "modern" disk brake cars.

Finally got back to posting. I had my Midland remote booster rebuilt by Whitepost Restorations and it works well. The core I sent was corroded inside and needed sleeved which is what they specialize in and had no problem with the rebuild. Quick turn around time and a warranty too.
