I am trying to remove the Heater Blower Cover on my 1961 Betty Birds to sand it down and put a coat of black paint on it.

I am able to remove the 5 5/16" bolts, but it seems like it is glued onto the firewall.

Before I get physical with it, is there something on the other side of this plate that may be holding this on? I do see a gasket in between, but I want to make sure. The manual does not indicate so.

Any help is appreciated.

The cover is normally glued to the firewall with a gasket in between. Just pry it off.

I would like to do the same to my '60. Are the gaskets available?

Hi John:

As usual, thank you! Just wanted to make sure!

@Chris: Yes, there are a couple of catalogs that offer the BLOWER MOTOR COVER SEAL or in others they sell as part of a HEATER BOX SEAL KIT.

Blower Cover removed using a painters tools to break the seal, and "pry" it off. Using a 3" blade did the trick.

I'm not sure its necessary to glue it back on like the factory. The gasket by itself should work just fine.

Hi John:

Yes, I agree. I am not planning to glue it on, just replacing the gasket is more then enough.
