I am restoring a 66 convert that has Highway Pilot cruise control. some of the components are missing or junk and the car has the non-Highway Pilot steering wheel. Parts cars with the Highway Pilot come up for sale, but are gone instantly. What gives and is there a source for all new parts?

Because of the limited amount of cars that had cruise control it doesn't make financial sense for companies to reproduce the parts. Some parts that were also used on the full size Ford line or Mustangs may be reproduced but they are probably very few. You are going to have to rely on finding good used parts. Your best bet is to try Bob's Bird House, The Bird's Nest, Pat Wilson Thunderbirds or the Thunderbird Connection. All these places sell used Thunderbird parts. Between the four places you may be able to find what you need.

What about Carl Heller (partsetal)? Does he only have 58-60?

It is my understanding that Carl only has Squarebird parts...

I came across this list of obsolete parts suppliers a few months ago when I was looking for a fuse for the cigarette lighter in my '60. Believe or not, they are not readily available, even from NAPA or MACs. I contacted Miller Obsolete Parts in Binghamton NY since he was closest to me. Ordered two fuses on a Monday morning and I had them in my hand on Wednesday - - pretty good service!

... I was looking for a fuse for the cigarette lighter in my '60...Ford never made cigarette lighters. Neither did GM or Chrysler. They bought them and the same Ford fuse fits a Pontiac, Chevy, Olds, Buick, Chrysler, Dodge, American Motors, Checker...

I don't know about right now, but I remember seeing those fuses in a bubble pack at K-Mart's Automotive aisle. - Dave

I bought one off the shelf at O'Reilly's for $5. It looked exactly like my original (1964), and it fit in perfectly.
