View Full Version : Pink 58

A friend of mine sent me this picture of Adrian Belew's car. Adrian is a supremely gifted guitarist, singer, songwriter, producer and all things musical. He has performed with Frank Zappa and the Mothers of Invention, King Crimson and has made records under his own name. I posted a link to our site on his timeline on Facebook (still learning how all that works). Very cool!

I like seeing it lowered in the front. I keep seeing the 58,59,60"s lowered in my mind. Still working to get my '60 running, but would love to lower it a bit in the final manifestation

That Pink '58 looks like a Pink '59 to me. It has the '59 grill and the chrome spear point on the door and not the chrome pieces a '58 should have.

Yes my mistake. :o

Pink???? I think the correct terms are Flamingo for a 59 or Palm Springs Rose for a 60. ;-))

I'm digging the lowered job as well. The one and ONLY thing I dislike about our Squarebirds is the elevated front end. I can't think of any other vehicle that has a reversed stance!? (correct me if I'm wrong). I'm going to chop off half a coil on mine when she's ready, see if that does it. Hope that levels her out at the very least, or a very slight rake would still look cool. Plenty of tire clearance with stock 14's or steelie 15's, so no worry there.
Smooth Car, plus a musician, means he's cool with me. Tell him thanks for sharing

My Yellow Rose has a slight nose down effect to it because there are air shocks on the rear, raising the rear end up a bit. The PO was towing a boat with it, and put air shocks on. The Draw-Tite trailer hitch made for the Squarebirds back then, that was on her has lived in Australia for some years now because I never plan on towing anything with her. So instead of chopping the coils, you might consider putting air shocks on and adjusting her stance that way...

Another consideration indeed. Your Tweety-Bird sits real nice Ray. Did you eliminate the leaf springs?

Thanks! Nope, the leaf springs remain on the car. There is an air valve on the left rear bumper where you can let air out or put more air to the shocks if you want to. Here is a pic taken shortly after I got her, with an arrow pointing to the air valve on the bumper.. You can see the Casino Cream color she was, one of the tail light lens turned the wrong direction, the bumper, paint, and tail light panel conditions. All that was since redone to what it looks like today, like a new car.

Flamingo? That makes sense. When I was deciding what color to have mine painted I ended up choosing a color that was a factory offering on '80s Jaguars: Flamenco. Needless to say many folks think I am saying flamingo when they ask me what color my car is. :)
