Newbie here. I am rebuilding a barn find. '58 convertible. I have looked, searched and researched for the proper color for my 352 motor. I come up with light Ford blue and black. The engine has been rebuilt and painted a darker blue. Before install.....I want to paint it again. The proper color.! The car is colonial white and I have painted the engine bay that color. The specs that I find on this board tell me engine-light blue. The pics that I see at Barrett-Jackson and elsewhere suggest that it might be black. Any clarification is greatly appreciated.

The engine block, heads, pan, intake and water pump should be old Ford blue(lighter blue). The valve covers black and air cleaner colonial white. Here's the correct blue paint from Mac's.

Here's a link to the correct engine colors.

I personally cannot say that the valve covers on the 59 were the same blue as used on the 58 engine.

I suffered thru this same problem for at least 6 months when doing my 58.

Ended up finding an original intake manifole that appeared to be unmolested and matched the pain to this 58 manifold.

I do not know if the paint is still available, but contact Chuck Siewert at Regal Roadsters in Madison Wi. 608-712-4142.

Good Luck

If you want a spray can from the local auto parts store, here's the closest matches to Ford M-2J-998 Engine Blue, used '58-'65 on 352s, '60-'63 144 I-6s, '64-'65 200 I-6s, and '63-'64 260 V8s:

DupliColor DE1601 Ford Blue (Do not use DE1606 Old Ford Blue: this is the color used for '66-late '60s-early '70s Ford engines, also called Ford Corporate Blue)

VHT SP134 Ford Medium Blue

If you prefer to spray pints or quarts, start with these numbers and get enamel:
PPG-Ditzler: DQE 11297
DuPont Dulux: 58740-H
Martin-Seynor: 7958

Or get POR-15s Engine Enamel:
42178 Ford Medium Blue

There is a page in the Technical section of Squarebirds.org that has info on other engine colors that I wrote several years ago: I need to update that page as I've recently found some more numbers to add as well as correct some others.
